A word about our ensuing history, American University in Tunisia is being founded to become operational by September 1, 2018. During the next two intervening years, AUT is expected to grow into a globally recognized center teaching and scholarship, among the very best of the region. Our stunningly beautiful campus will be built on a 5 hectares piece of land located on the skirts of Tunis. We wish to assemble doctorally qualified faculty and staff of high distinction, men and women, who are dedicated to sustain the highest standards of academic excellence at par with other American universities located across the world. Our students will be chosen for their academic potential and will hail from Tunisia, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean region and African countries, creating a learning environment of breathtaking cultural diversity. In short, AUT will provide a stimulating setting full of potential for all who seek a community of intellectual discourse, multicultural engagement and personal growth. This claim has four meanings:

The American University in Tunisia will be a comprehensive, independent, for-profit coeducational institution of higher education that will foster excellence for teaching, learning and research. Based on an American model of higher education and grounded in the culture of the Maghreb region. AUT will foster a community that will embrace cultural diversity and whose members will be committed in the ideas of open intellectual inquiry ethical behavior and effective members of society, AUT will educate lifelong learners who display mastery in the core competences of their areas of specialization and who communicate clearly, think critically and solve problems creatively.
American education is recognized throughout the world for its excellence, uniqueness and distinctive character that ensures employability of its graduates across the globe. For instance, every 4 year degree consists of 40 courses, and each course carries 3 credits. Courses are equally divided between general education program courses (e.g., 20 courses taken from across the campus in diverse areas from arts to humanities, and from sciences to engineering) and another set of 20 courses taken in the chosen field of specialization (major). Teaching emphasis is placed on continuous evaluation of students performance in the classroom and beyond. Education is oriented towards practical dimension with an overwhelming emphasis placed on how could a student use it on the job and in the field. Hence, the focus of education is on developing skills, expertise and competencies that would make each student a great employee for his/her employer.

AUT is planning to get accreditation in the United States of America (USA) by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA).
The bachelor of science and master of science degree programs in chemical engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering to be offered by the college of engineering will be accredited by the engineering accreditation commission of ABET.
The Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree program in Computer Science to be offered by the College of Science will be accredited by the computing accreditation commission of ABET.
The Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs of College Architecture, Art and Design of will be accredited by the national Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) of the United States. NAAB is the only organization authorized to accredited professional degree programs in architecture in the United States.
The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) as well as the Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degrees to be offered by the College of Business Administration will be accredited by the association to advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB)
